Questions and answers
What does Lampworth do?
You choose up to ten apps or websites on your child's iPhone or iPad, and the times when they rest: school, homework and bedtime. During those times the chosen apps show a calm pause screen that says when they are back. Everything you did not choose stays free.
Is it really free?
Yes. What is in the app today is free and stays free. Two bigger versions, Pro and Max, are being built and will be subscriptions; the plans page says what each will add. Nothing can be bought in the app today.
Does my child know the rules are on?
Always. Your child can open Lampworth and read every rule, and the pause screen says why an app is resting and when it comes back. There is no hidden mode, and there never will be.
What can Lampworth see?
Nothing about what your child does. It never sees messages, photos, what is typed or watched, or where the device is. Apple's Screen Time does the pausing on the device; Lampworth only tells it which apps and when. Apple does not even tell Lampworth the names of the apps you chose.
Does it need an account or the internet?
No account. And no internet once it is set up: iOS keeps the rules on the device, even when Lampworth is closed. One step needs the internet once: on a device signed in with your child's own Apple Account, Apple asks a parent to approve Lampworth.
Can my child delete Lampworth or get round it?
On a device signed in with your child's own Apple Account, iOS asks for a parent's Apple Account password before Lampworth can be deleted. On a device that keeps a parent's account, Lampworth shows you two steps that close the gap. Your PIN protects the rules: adding time or loosening a rule needs it; making a rule stricter never does. No tool is perfect, so Lampworth also tells you plainly what it cannot stop.
My child wants more time. What happens?
They tap "Ask for more time" on the pause screen or in Lampworth. You enter your PIN on the device and give 15 or 30 minutes. Answering from your own phone is part of Pro, which is being built.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. It is best protected when the device is signed in with your child's own Apple Account in your Family Sharing group. It also works on a device that keeps a parent's account, for example a family iPad.
How is it different from Apple's own Screen Time?
Lampworth uses Apple's Screen Time underneath, so iOS itself enforces the rules. What it adds is a calmer way to set them: a setup that takes about three minutes, plain words, rules your child can read for themselves, and a pause screen that explains instead of only blocking.
I forgot my PIN. What now?
Delete Lampworth and install it again: that clears the PIN and every rule. On a device with your child's own Apple Account, iOS asks for a parent's password first.
Still stuck?
Write to support@lampworth.com. Say what you saw, what you expected, and which device it was (for example "iPad, iPadOS 26"). Please never send a password or your PIN. In the app, a parent can also tap the three dots, then Report a problem: it opens a letter to us with the version and the device already written in.
Lampworth is made by one person, so an answer can take a few days. Every message is read.
If something is wrong on the device right now
- An app is paused that should not be: open Lampworth, tap Parent, enter your PIN, and untick the app or turn the time off.
- Everything should be free again: turn the three times off and untick every app. Deleting Lampworth also removes all of its pauses.
- "Delete App" is missing: on a child's Apple Account, iOS asks a parent first. Switch Lampworth off in Settings, Screen Time, Apps With Screen Time Access, then delete it.
